International Students Information

Welcome to Miramar!

San Diego Miramar College welcomes your application as an international student, and our staff will make every effort to assist you. Our admission requirements conform to the regulations of the U. S. Government for issuing F-1 student visas.

General Information

Please read the following information before proceeding any further.

Academic Standards

• As an F-1 visa student you must enroll in a full-time program of studies and complete a minimum of 12 units each semester and maintain a 2.0 GPA.
  
• A mandatory orientation enrollment session for all international students will be held about three weeks prior to the start of the semester. Applicants who are unable to attend every session during orientation week are encouraged to apply at a later date.

Academic Programs

• San Diego Miramar College does not offer an intensive program of English as a Second Language.
  
• San Diego Miramar College offers lower division coursework towards a vocational certificate, a two-year associate degree, and preparation for a four-year bachelor's degree or graduate program.
  
• If you are already in possession of a baccalaureate or college degree or the equivalent (completion of about 60 units), you may be considered beyond the course offerings of San Diego Miramar College and are encouraged to apply to a four-year college or university. Exceptions may be granted for students declaring a new major or needing additional lower division courses.
  
• Students accepted for the fall semester may attend the summer school session prior to the fall semester if requested.

College Catalog

• You may obtain a college catalog containing course descriptions by writing to the Miramar College Bookstore at our address, enclosing a check or money order. Catalogs are mailed within the U. S. for $7.20 or outside the U.S. for $16.

Health Insurance

• If admitted, you will be required to provide proof of health insurance that will pay a United States provider.

It is the applicant's responsibility to read and understand the requirements and carefully follow the directions. Please understand that no action will be taken unless all necessary documentation is on file in the International Student Admissions Office by the stated deadlines. Admission Requirements

English Proficiency

To be accepted as an international student at San Diego Miramar College you must be able to speak, read, write and understand English at a level that will allow you to successfully complete college work. To verify your level, we require that you pass the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) with a minimum score of 500. This requirement is waived if you completed a college level English composition course in the United States or if you come from a country that has English as the primary language in its educational system.
