What is an Honors contract?
Honors contracts are written agreements between the you and the student in a non-honors section. A simple two-page form, the honors contract specifies honors-level objectives that you will ask your students to meet.
Where can I get the form?
Contract forms are available in the wall pocket in front of the Honors Program office (C202B) or can be printed out here.
What is the deadline?
Forms must be signed by the students and the instructor within the first three weeks of the semester and then forwarded to the Honors Coordinator, Carmen Jay.
Spring 2000 deadlines:
Friday, February 4, 2000: Honors Contract forms dueFriday, February 25, 2000: Honors Syllabi due
Mid-March 2000: Honors Course Proposals for Spring 2001 due
ALL FORMS, SYLLABI, AND PROPOSALS CAN BE DROPPED OFF IN THE HONORS COORDINATOR'S (CARMEN JAY) MAILBOX OR OFFICE (C202B).
What happens after I sign the Honors Contract?
Drop off the Honors Contract in the Honors Coordinator's mailbox. Following approval by the Honors Coordinator, the Honors Contract will be forwarded to the Dean of Arts and Sciences. Following approval by the dean, new course reference numbers will be generated by admissions and students will be automatically transferred to the new number. Instructors will receive new rosters and grade sheets with the word "Honors" in the course title.Do I need to write a new syllabus?
Instructors need to submit a new syllabus (simply list honors objectives and assignments on a regular syllabus) by week six of the semester. Deliver to the Honors Coordinator's mailbox or office (C202B).

Honors Contracts are individual agreements between a student and the instructor that enable the student to do Honors level work and receive Honors credit, providing flexibility in scheduling.Interested in developing an Honors Contract?
- Honors Contract forms (available from the Honors Coordinator) must be signed within the first three weeks of the semester -- plan ahead
- The Contract specifies honors-level objectives and tasks to be completed by the student in addition to the regular course objectives. Instructors will provide students with a new honors syllabus specifying those objectives/tasks.Eligibility and Applications
Honors Book Award
TO qualifying Students must meet the following criteria:
- be currently enrolled as a full or part-time student
- have a 3.25 cumulative average IN 12 or more college-level units
- students WITH LESS THAN 12 UNITS must qualify on the Miramar College placement test
- be B.O.G. (Board of Governor's Grant) eligible (contact your campus office of Financial Aid for more information)
Awards can be as much as $250 per semester for full-time students and $125 for part-time students.
Deadline for the spring 2000 semester is Friday, February 4.
Submit application to the Honors Program office, C202B.
